There's no place like home — especially for seniors. And now we have data to prove it.
Over 90% of seniors say they prefer to age from the comfort of their own homes, as opposed to moving into an assisted living or other senior living facility, so says a recent survey by American Advisors Group (AAG).
“For seniors, the comfort, safety and independence of their home outweigh the desire to move,” Martin Lenoir, chief marketing officer at AAG, said in a press release.
Living at home provides comfort and safety for seniors
As noted in the survey, a home is more than just a residence for seniors. It represents a lifetime's worth of memories, accomplishments — and most importantly — comfort and familiarity. In fact, 82% of seniors said they felt safer in their current homes over other senior living options.
It's well understood that owning a home is one of the best financial investments one can make in his or her lifetime, but for seniors, their home truly is where their heart is. Unsurprisingly, over 60% of those polled said they also have an emotional connection to their home.
Independence key in seniors' decision to live at home
So what do all these numbers have to do with the senior wellness industry?
The survey also notes that 40% of seniors cite independence as the most important benefit to continuing to live in their home.
But not all seniors are alike. While some may have no problem living independently, others may need some help.
That's where SafeGuardian comes in.
